FOLK & TRADITION

What can a song do? It can make people proud of themselves, of their land, their people. It can help them understand who they are, where they came from, and perhaps, where they might be going and why.

Kentucky Theater Project honors artistic endeavors that are steeped in Kentucky tradition, those arts that have grown through time within the many groups in Kentucky that share the same ethnic heritage, language, occupation, religion, or geographic area.

Through the Folk and Tradition Program present live performances and workshops by regional folk artists that focus on a particular genre of music or local musical tradition that relates to Kentucky’s folk music. As part of the Folk and Tradition Program, master folk artists also teach their skills, practices, and culture to less experienced artists.
