OVERVIEW

The arts help us understand people and the traditions and symbols that have meaning for them. The arts transcend the limits of differences and help to bridge gaps in a diverse and complicated society.

The Cultural Heritage Initiative builds bridges and brings diverse people and groups together to learn from one another and foster a greater understanding of how cultures and the beliefs of those cultures contribute to the arts in Kentucky and affect its social fabric.

Through this initiative we build on the legacy of community-based arts in Kentucky. We also expand and redefine Kentucky’s cultural heritage to include its alternative and world communities, providing greater arts opportunities for Louisville’s youth and growing international populations.
