Moya - Artist's
Statement
Fernando
is passionate about keeping the music of the Andes alive and educating
others about the importance of preserving folk traditions. He believes
his highest purpose is to provide others with a fresh perspective on the
struggles of his people to conserve their culture and vision of the world.
Performing
Artist
Fernando Moya is a master musician and crafter of indigenous South American
wind instruments, who also performs expertly on string and percussion
instruments that Andean highlanders transmuted from European and African
instruments in the early 16th century. Fernando has performed on public
stages, at festivals and prestigious arts venues in Ecuador and throughout
the United States for more than 20 years. Among the stages of distinction
that he has performed are Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, and the World
Music Institute.
Arts
Educator
In addition to concert performances, Fernando has conducted lectures,
workshops and demonstrations at countless universities and secondary and
primary schools. His range as an arts educator includes performing concerts
for school children; conducting lecture demonstrations and teaching master
classes for university music students studying Andean instruments; and
conducting panpipe making workshops for groups of students.
Cultural Artist in Residence
Fernando is the Cultural Artist in Residence for Kentucky Theater Project.
In this capacity he conducts outreach programs and works with master folk
musician John Gage to present bilingual programs
that demonstrate through music and narration how we are all connected.
Fernando is listed in the Kentucky Arts on Tour directory and available
