Film
and Media Arts
35mm
Independent Art Films
Fourth Street was a hot bed for movie houses
from the 1920s through the 1960s, before cinema complexes sprouted
across the suburban landscape and film house after film house was
razed for parking garages and asphalt lots. Blacksploitation and
kung fu movies managed a short run at the Kentucky Theater before
film ended altogether there in the early 80s. Now, some 20
years later, film is back at the Kentucky Theater.
KTP
also rents its theater
to companies, organizations and individuals that want to premier
or screen 35mm films before a private or public audience.
Digital
Cinema
In addition to screening distributed independent art films on 35mm
film, KTP showcases the works of non-distributed digital video producers
to encourage free expression and provide opportunities for emerging
media artists to exhibit their work in a supportive, people-centered
environment.
Digital
video programming at KTP brings diverse people together
to critique and debate films and filmmaking arts through film
festivals and micro-cinema events that are rich in social,
political, and artistic expression.
In
addition, KTP rents its
theater to companies, organizations and individuals that want to
premier or screen digital video productions before a private or
public audience.
