Kentucky Homefront is planned, coordinated, and produced by a team of volunteers

In spring 2000, a band of volunteers began breathing new life into the old historic Kentucky Theater in downtown Louisville, which had been owned by the City and neglected for nearly 15 years. Today, hundreds of musicians, storytellers, filmmakers, improvisational artists, actors, dancers, and visual artists use the Kentucky Theater to enrich the cultural landscape of Louisville and find new audiences for their work.

Kentucky Theater, originally built as a silent movie house in 1921, now serves as a vibrant arts center and meeting place for the entire community. Events there have reached more than 10,000 people and have helped in the current revitalization efforts of Fourth Street, thus demonstrating the power of community arts.

Four non-profit organizations call the Kentucky Theater home:
Kentucky Homefront
Kentucky Theater Project
International Order of E.A.R.S., best known for Corn Island Storytelling Festival
Project Improv

The Kentucky Theater is also available to rent to help other community organizations expand their outreach efforts through community building.
